Race 1 - Bristol
FATBOY
TRIUMPHS IN BRISTOL SLIDESHOW
The first race of the fatboy racing calendar was indeed an eventful one
with 11 drivers desperately trying to stay on what was a very slippery
but entertaining track, with team supremo Fatboy eventually coming out
on top and taking the 25 points to lead the championship.
Things were very different in qualifying though
with Davro setting the early pace to take this season's first pole
position, with Fatboy back in 3rd sandwiched, just the way he likes
it, between The Stigmeister in 2nd and Fupduk in 4th. Matt Matt was
placed 5th just in front of some very respectable qualifying times from
the girls, Krusty in 6th, Double Dee in 7th and Special in 8th. Bringing
up the rear of the grid were Criminal in 9th, Wine Time in 10th and
Snail in 11th.
The race itself started in disastrous fashion for
2nd placed The Stigmeister when he spun out on the very first lap
leaving him back down in 9th place after lap 1. Krusty was the unlucky
one of the chasing pack to be caught up in the crash going from 6th to
last position after lap 1. A great start from Double Dee saw her move up
to 4th place from 7th on the grid.
This left the 3 boys Davro, Fatboy and Fupduk
battling it out for first place, a position they all held at some point
during a high drama, stop start race. The race was equally dramatic for
the chasing pack with last place swapping hands between 6 drivers in a
chaotic first 6 laps.
A pretty impressive drive from Krusty in last place
saw her get hot on the heels of The Stigmeister and follow him through a
congested pack to lie in 6th place after 6 laps, a position she went on
to hold for the remainder of the race. By now Wine Time, Special,
Criminal and Matt Matt had all had a stint in last place as they
jockeyed for position. It was Special though who pulled away from the
pack to make up lost ground and get herself into a very commendable 7th
place, which is where she remained for the rest of the race.
Laps 10 & 11 at the front of the race were
particularly fruitful for Fupduk, who by the way had the fastest lap
time of the day at 35.599 seconds, when in lap 10 he moved ahead of
Fatboy into 2nd place and then on lap 11 both Fupduk and Fatboy took
Davro to lie in 1st and 2nd place respectively, with Davro left in 3rd
where he went on to finish the race.
Lap 10 was also where things started to hot up
between 5th placed The Stigmeister (AKA Hubby) and 4th placed Double Dee
(AKA The Missus), as they jostled for 4th place on 3 occasions before
The Stigmeister finally took control of the situation to finish (as
always) on top from lap 16 to the end of the race. Double Dee did
however comfortably hold onto 5th place to give herself a very well
earned 10 points.
The race did start to settle down mid way through
with most drivers holding their positions although Criminal did make a
late challenge to get himself from 10th to finish in 8th just in front
of Matt Matt in 9th, Snail in 10th and Wine Time bringing up the rear in
11th.
