The Fatboy Challenge Tournament

Andover - Second race completed

THE STIGMEISTER CRUISES TO ANDOVER VICTORY

A different format in Andover due to the larger driver numbers meant that there were 2 qualifying sessions and 2 finals on what was a very different event from Bristol. The track was much more grippy and the karts were lower cc engines which proved hard work for the slightly heavier drivers (no names mentioned). The Stigmeister, took full advantage of the situation to take victory in the 2nd race of the year, a result which takes him tied for the lead in the Championship with Fatboy on 37 points.

The day started with everyone arriving in their new fatboy racing t-shirts which looked fantastic. After some initial problems with the restaurant booking and the track not opening until 12pm, qualifying groups and kart numbers were drawn and it was down to the serious business of racing.

Davro went fastest in qualifying group 1 with a time of 29.87 seconds, a full second faster than his closest challenger Fupduk. The Stigmeister was fastest in qualifying group 2 with a time of 29.69, which just pipped (a very hungover) Davro for pole position. The most impressive qualifying time however must go to Wine Time, who after finishing in last place at Bristol, stormed to 6th position on the grid for the grand final.

Both finals were less eventful than Bristol in terms of crashes and changes in position, probably due to having less drivers on the track and the track being less slippery, but still very enjoyable.

Runners Up Final

The runners up final went out first, with Double Dee on pole followed by Special, Le King, Krusty, Matt Matt and last but not least Me Me. The first few laps saw Le King, Krusty and Matt Matt challenging for 4th place with Krusty managing to take it ahead of Le King. Matt Matt started to fall away and mid way through the race lost 5th place to Me Me.

At the front of the race things were going very smoothly for race leader Double Dee who was 10 seconds up on 2nd placed Special after 11 laps. Double Dee then got caught up in some traffic and in particular couldn't pass Matt Matt, this led to Special closing the gap over the next 9 laps and eventually on lap 21 just 3 laps from the finish she managed to overtake Double Dee and Matt Matt to take the chequered flag.

The last piece of drama came on the very last lap when Le King, who had been sat behind Krusty for most of the race, overtook her to take the final podium place.

Grand Final

The surprise of the day was race 1 winner Fatboy starting 5th on the grid, although he did make up for this immediately, going from 5th to 3rd on the very first lap. This was short lived though as he went back into 5th on lap 4 before fighting for 4th spot with Criminal which he did take on lap 6. Criminal then dropped away, largely due to some aggressive overtaking by the front runners which spun him out a few times, to fight for 5th place with Wine Time, which he did come away with in the end giving him 10 points and moving him up to joint 5th with Double Dee on 14 points for the Championship.

Fatboy and Fupduk had an extraordinary battle for 3rd place with less than a second separating them from lap 8 to the finish. Fupduk did however manage to hold off Fatboy to take 3rd position and a place on the podium. The Stigmeister, after some initial pressure from Davro who got as close as 0.37 seconds on lap 10, ran out a comfortable winner by 12 seconds in the end.
